T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon all announced they would shut down their 3G services this year, shifting the focus entirely to 4G (LTE) and 5G networks in 2022. The first to do so will be the U.S. carrier AT&T, who will discontinue the service in February.

T-Mobile has decided to postpone their own 3G cutoff date to March 31 after originally announcing the shutdown in the first days of 2022. On the other hand, Verizon users will still have the service all year. For many customers still using older mobile phones, this announcement means their devices are about to be rendered virtually useless. Among them, the most popular models on the Croatian market were: HTC Desire 500, Samsung Galaxy S3 mini, Catepillar Cat B15, Sony Xperia M, Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2, Huawei Ascend G740, Samsung Galaxy Ace 2… The list of written-off phones also includes the LG F, L, and Optimus series.

At the end of 2022, users of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will stop receiving updates for these devices and will not be able to request repairs with Apple Authorized Service Providers. In addition, the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C devices will no longer be supported from this year.

Most of the users of these devices will be directly notified of the termination of service by their telecom operators if impacted by the change, according to major carriers’ representatives. However, the consumers who use these older devices for emergency calls only may not receive a notification from the operator that they can no longer use any services.
